Khedive's Star, dated 1884-6, named to 1304 Pte. R. Lambourne, 1st Bn., The Royal Sussex Regiment |
It seems clear that all 1882 Stars to the regiment were named in the same style, and probably at the same time. The situation is far less clear regarding the 1884-6 Stars, where the differences between the naming styles are almost as striking as the similarities. The Star to Lambourne should perhaps be considered the datum example, as it remains in a a group with his Egypt Medal and India General Service Medal. (The style and content of the naming also matches exactly that seen on Clarke's Star.) This is not to say that there is necessarily anything inauthentic about the other examples shown.
