Each of these Stars accompanies an officially-named Egypt Medal to each of these recipients. It would seem that regimental numbers were impressed immediately above and to the left of the Khedive's monogram on Stars to (some? many? all?) recipients in this battalion, and that at least one recipient decided that this was not good enough!
